• Welcome to Jo Ashworth Photography

    I am a photographer based in the small wheatbelt town of Kalannie, I travel to Perth and throughout country WA to shoot clients in their homes and surrounds. I enjoy family, child and newborn portraiture but when there are no people around and the light is doing it's thing, I head out to capture rural landscapes. Read on for a brief glimpse into our farming family life and all those who cross my path, I look forward to meeting you in the future... Jo

A Special Birthday Gift {wa family photographer}

Recently Kathy celebrated a special milestone birthday, and as a gift her very thoughtful family organised a whole of family photography session.  As much a gift as the beautiful family portrait she will have on her wall, is the time the family spent together on the afternoon for her.

I tried, but couldn’t limit this sneak peak to a few images, these people have such adorable children!

after we had spent some time walking around the homestead, and a short debate on the best location to achieve my vision (that is still to come), we headed down the road to the paddock.

I have to save some things as a surprise for later, so the whole of family shots can wait.

Thankyou all for a lovely afternoon, I enjoyed every minute of it, even having lollypops growing out of my ears!

Keeping up with the Jones’ {Perth Family Photographer}

Well that was me last Sunday morning. And what fun I had trying to keep up with the 3 gorgeous Jones children.
I went to school and then uni with Mrs Jones (well Dr actually!) so was thrilled when she contacted me for a shoot. She found her Mr Jones (another Dr) in the UK and lured him to WA. This was the first time I had met their children though. I loved meeting their 2 big girls and Master Jones, who is the same age as my Rex, and what a cutey!
The Jones brief was… casual relaxed family photos…

so here they are:

and one last one, the last shot of the morning before I received big hugs from each of the kids (how lucky was I!)

I enjoyed my morning immensely, wished I had a little more chat time to catchup, but chasing after the 3 Jones children kept me fairly busy!!

Rowan’s Family {WA Family Photographer}

I love meeting up with new families, adoring Mums and Dads, besotted with their little ones, who are so full of personality. Rowan and his Mum and Dad are just that. He has such a personality and they are certainly besotted with him, and I am sure I could have forgotten to let him out of my car and brought him home, 4 boys?….

Now, I drove a fair way to catchup with Rowan’s mum, and meet him and his Dad, it was lovely to be able to admire some flowering canola, and growing wheat, unlike crops around home. So I insisted we head out to the paddock.

I had mentioned to Rowan’s mum that if she had an old couch or chair we could put it to good use, you can imagine my delight when I pulled up at the house to see this treasure tied to the back of the ute! (in fact, the chair could have come home with Rowan and I actually)

Rowan’s Mum and Dad were married on the family farm and had wedding photos beneath this beautiful gum tree, one of many dotted throughout the property.

Rowan loved all our tricks, when he wasn’t eating the sand or the flowers, he smiled with glee

and last stop on our tour around the farm was to the top of the granite outcrop just above the homestead – where his Dad proposed to his Mum and where they were married not long after…

I had such a lovely time hearing the stories of their lives, filling in the gaps as I took it in turns with whom I was riding. Will be in touch soon G & D.

2 week old Amalie {newborn photographer Perth}

Yesterday I met the most adorable little girl, for the second time in 2 weeks, Amalie.  I used to study Engineering at UWA with her dad, a lifetime ago it seems.  Now, as you may or may not know I have a nearly 12 year old, so am always thrilled when long time friends join the great club that is parenthood.  And I have to mention it must have been the day for it as Ann also had her first baby a few hours before Amalie was born.

Now Amalie…

Silky hair

precious pursed lips

creamy soft skin

milky perfume

all that is newborn… and here she is:

Amalie spent most of the few hours I was with her and her lovely mum wide awake, alert and happy, relaxed and content, she closed her eyes for a few moments…

I have taught myself to crotchet and actually read patterns – Amalie was a perfect model…

unfortunately her dad couldn’t make it home from work before we lost the afternoon light, but I love that I captured his 2 girls!

Thankyou for having my Kristy, I loved spending time with you and Amalie, and Rudolf, sorry I missed you (well done by the way, she is gorgeous)

4 week old Axle (and his family) {newborn and family photographer}

Yesterday I enjoyed the afternoon with a precious little soul, Axle.   This little man has joined a lovely family of 6 adults, a very welcome and much loved addition.  He and his parents enjoyed their first trip to the family farm as a new family.   Here is that beautiful family:

and here is this gorgeous little being, with such knowing eyes:

It had been a while since any family portraits had been taken, the last time was when Mum and Uncle Shane were only very little – so everyone came along to share in the fun, here is Uncle Shane and Aunty Michelle:

I know I will have the details incorrect, but here is the very rare 1924 W&G old farm truck, Ken showed me a photo of his father standing on the tray in its hey day. She has been restored and still is driveable – luckily as this very fussy photographer asked for it to be positioned in the right spot!
The whole family, 3 generations:

and one last one of baby Axle, who showed us he could sleep, although I hear he hadn’t done very much of that for his Mum and Dad while they were visiting.

Thanks for having me Vicki, it was lovely to meet your whole family, (thankyou to Shane for allowing me to pick on him), I will be in touch soon with the rest of the images.
